YOUNG EXPLORERS SWINE AWARDS

SWINE
CHECK WITH YOUNG EXPLORERS 4-H SWINE LEADER FOR FULL RULES AND REQUIREMENTS.
THERE ARE EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS AND TAGGING DEADLINES FOR FAIR THAT MUST BE MET TO EXHIBIT.

Pork Quality Assurance (PQA) certification is required to show and sell swine. Consult current Fair Book and 4-H Office for additional information.
Pigs born and raised within Michigan will not be required to have Pseuodorabies Testing done.
If the exhibitor doesn't have an animal that qualifies for the official weightclass, then they may enter one only outside of the 220-280# weight requirement. They will be judged in their respective "unofficial" weight class and receive ribbons and placings. The exhibitor will be judged in Showmanship classes and will be required to complete the Swine interview.
The birth date (Jan. 1 or later) and ownership date (May 1 or before) will remain the same as previous years.

Per Young Explorers Rules, each exhibitor must complete an educational project on Swine. All judged notebooks must conform with the Van Buren County notebook rules.

BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR CURRENT FAIR BOOK FOR RULE CHANGES. GO TO LARGE ANIMAL RULES FOR ADDITIONAL RULES.

SWINE PROJECT EVALUATION
Swine exhibitors will have a short interview with the judge. The superintendent will have a sheet to sign-up for an interview time. Rating will be based on interview, record book, and animal.
