
All small animal exhibitors must submit a fair pre-registration form by June 15. All small animal exhibitors must pay $10.00 per family. This money should be turned in with the pre-registration forms. The money goest to the SMAC Treasury for auction expenses, cages and supplies that are needed for fair week.(SAMPLE FORM) For more information, contact Denise Massey, Key Leader.

Showmanship is a required class. Exhibitors not participating in the showmanship classes will not be allowed to show in any other small animal classes. Nor will the exhibitor be allowed to sell their animal(s) at auction.

Rabbit, Poultry, Cavy, and Goat exhibitors must attend the meetings set for their animal during Fair week. Consult current fair book for times. |
Goats must be in the exhibitors possession on or before May 1 of the current year, except for kids born to a doe owned by the exhibitor. |
For other small animals, consult individual animal rules for ownership and age to show. |
All animals entered must be free of infectious diseases. |
No animals may be put in the cages until they are inspected by the Superintendent. Goats must be inspected by the veterinarian. |
Animals that do not pass inspection must be taken home. Animals that develop symptoms during fair week must be taken home. |
Animals that have lice, ticks, mange, external parasites, or other disease or unthrifty condition will be sent home. |
Animals that show signs of recent castration or dehorning will not be allowed at the fair. |
All pens must be labeled. Exhibitors will receive an identification card from the superintendent when they check in on entry day. |
Exhibitors must furnish their own feed and water containers. |
Exhibitors are to fed and water their animals every day. |
Pens and exhibit area should be cleaned every day. Pens must be cleaned before exhibitor picks up his/her premium check. |
Exhibitors should consult the current fair book for release times of animals. |
Exhibitors must help clean the barn on Sunday when animals are released. They must have a signed slip from the superintendent before they can pick up their premium and/or sale checks. A clean-up fee of $25 will be deducted from your auction check or billed. If not paid, you will not be allowed to show next year. |
Only animals entered in market classes may be sold at the Small Animal Auction. A market pen is any Commercial Breed raised for meat. |
Grand and Reserve Grand Champion Market Animals must be sold at the auction. All exhibitors may sell their market animals, but they must inform the division superintendent by the required deadline. |

There shall be two divisions in the Small Animal Showmanship Sweepstakes: Juniors - 13-14 years of age during the current calendar year; and Seniors - 15-19 years of age during the current calendar year. |
First place individuals in each species will be eligible to compete. |
If an exhibitor wins more than one species the showmanship he/she may choose what species he/she will represent. The second place showmanship winner will represent the species that he/she chooses not to show. |
The following species shall participate in the Small Animal Showmanship Sweepstakes: chickens, other poultry, rabbits, cavies and lab animals. |
In each Sweepstakes division, contestants will show all five species. |
There will be a drawing to match Junior and Senior exhibitors to form five teams. Each Junior/Senior team will work together to prepare their animals for show. |
The selection of animals will be drawn by lot from the group of animals selected by each species superintendent. Drawing of animals shall take place at the 4-H Office during fair week with all contestants or their proxies present. |
Species will be shown in the following order: chickens, other poultry, rabbits, cavies, lab animals. |
Exhibitors should consult the current Fair book for the date and time of the sweepstakes. Participants should be at the sweepstakes site no later than 8:45 a.m. The Junior exhibitors will show first followed by the Senior exhibitors in each species. |
All contestants may wear white pants with long sleeve white shirts. Black pants are optional, no blue jeans. |
Scoring will be as follows: |
| Points shall be awarded to contestants based on their placings in each species. First place will receive one point, second place two points, etc. |
| The contestants scoring the lowest total points in each division shall be declared Small Animal Showmanship Sweepstakes Champion. The contestant with the next lowest points will be declared Reserved Champion. |
| In the event of a tie at the conclusion of the contest, the contestants involved will be asked to answer tie breaking questions selected randomly from a list prepared in advance by the judges. The winner will be chosen based on the judge's decision. Judges decision is final. |
Winners shall be announced at the end of the Sweepstakes contest, rather than after each species. A trophy and rosette will be presented to the champion in each division, a reserve champion rosette from the reserve champion winner in each division and third through fifth place shall receive placing rosette. |
