On April 20, 2009, Ker Choo was put to rest at the great age of 36 as she was suffering from kidney failure. She will be greatly missed as we spent many years together.
Choo was the last baby born on the HJ Triple J Farm, now the Brindley residence. She was born from a huge QH stallion named Horseshoe Curve and out of a nasty wild colored appy mare who only stood 14.3 hands named ML's Hot Pants. Choo of course took after her daddy with height, size and color. Choo was my Julie Shepherd's horse at the beginning where Julie brought her to fair as a 4 year old, the start of a long 4-H career. Julie soon left for college and Jenn Chandler took over, Choo and Jenn bonded and were off to a great variety of riding disciplines.
They spent hours in the saddle traveling the countryside, making favorite stops on the way including the "Short Stop" for a ice cream and the owner Mr. Short would bring Choo a bucket of water. They traveled all over the place and Mrs. Wiseley would get updates of where we were from people coming into the store, sometimes that was not always good. They taught each other how to ride english, jump, gymkhana, and of course trick riding. Jenn was pretty good standing up on the saddle while Choo was walking and trotting around, another great moment mom loved looking out and seeing, rated right up there to jumping the arena fence!
Jenn showed Choo from my Young years of 4-H through my Senior I years, was a MSU state representative twice with her where one year they placed really well under a great judge by the name of Ken Brooks and then handed her down for cousin Abby to use. From there she rocked the leadline, Pee Wee, Young and Junior years winning many events and making another great bond with a horse loving girl. After Abbie came nephew Justin and Laurie Neal (a crazy horse loving neighbor girl) giving Justin his first fair experience as well as Laurie. Next came Michelle Kridler onto Katie Fabian, and then retirement.
Later Jenn used Choo for gathering up the Nordbrock steers when they were out which could be a weekly event. Niece Brooklynn also gained an interest in riding her here and there in between Mystery.
Travis loved Choo and was his first buddy prior to Mystery, he had a tendency to travel into the horse pasture at the age of 3, climb on while she was laying down which of course gave me heart failure. Then came Kevin, Choo was his horse since Travis moved to Mystery. She allowed him to hang on her neck while she picked him up swinging and also humored him at age 3 of loping around the arena while on the correct lead once again giving mom Jenn a heart attack while watching.
Thank you to all the families that allowed Choo to be part of your 4-H career, she loved the attention and the chance to keep on competing. She will be forever loved and dearly missed.
