VAN BUREN COUNTY
FASHION REVUE

Fashion Revue is a 4-H project that helps youth develop fashion sense through still exhibit projects, buymanship, and modeling. Youth may participate in the annual Fashion Revue show, as well as enter and display still exhibit projects at the Van Buren Youth Fair each July.

The Fashion Revue program offers a variety of youth skills necessary to succeed in life. In addition to learning to make and buy clothing, the program offers lessons in appearance, table manners, poise, and self esteem.

Prior to 2005, Van Buren County youth interested in the Fashion Revue program attended MSU's "Super You" day-long workshops. In 2005, Van Buren County 4-H decided to respark the interest by giving new life and design to the Fashion Revue Program, offering workshops and hosting the first Fashion Revue show in over ten years. Here is a look at the second show in 2006.
Annually, workshops are offered to Van Buren 4-H youth. The makeover workshop is held in cooperation with the Van Buren County Voc-Tech Center- Cosmetology Program. Youth attend a session to learn about hair, skin, and nail care, allowing Voc-Tech students to give them a makeover. Youth also attend workshops to learn the modeling "catwalk", presented by former pageant queens who were 4-H members.

Youth participate in a workshop on table etiquette, a valuable skill that they will use throughout life and professional careers.

In the Spring, the County Fashion Revue show is held. The purpose of the show is to give 4-H members (boys and girls) an opportunity to present clothing and textile projects in a runway setting. 4-H youth will model clothing items in the categories of crochet, knitting, macramé, sewing, personalization, and recycling. The event is planned throughout the year, followed by a dress rehearsal, and finally the show.

Youth will also model-clothing ensembles they’ve purchased in the buymanship program. Buymanship projects may be formal ensembles purchased for under $40, a regular outfit of any style, or an ensemble purchased through resale/consignment for under $20.

The Fashion Revue show also includes a judged modeling competition. The modeling competition will judge participants on modeling skills, personalization, costume appropriateness, poise/presentation, and skills appropriate for age. Each participant in this category must dress in a costume suited for the year's theme.
