VAN BUREN YOUTH FAIR - CATS




Each year at the beginning of July, the Van Buren County Youth Fair is held in Hartford, Michigan. There are three areas of activity: Cage Decorations, Showmanship, and Cat/Kitten Class. 4-H Members are also required to complete an educational project.


SHOWMANSHIP

There are six levels in the Showmanship class:

Pee Wee Showmanship - Ages 6-8

Young I Showmanship - Ages 9-10

Young II Showmanship - Ages 11-2

Junior Showmanship - Ages 13-14

Senior Showmanship - Ages 15-19

Champion Showmanship


In the Showmanship class, 4-H members are judged on the presentation of their cat and their personal knowledge of cats. Points are given and taken away for cleanliness, grooming, presentation, appearance of 4-H member, and knowlege of cats. (Showmanship How Tos)






CATS/KITTENS DIVISION




In the Cat/Kittens class, cats and kittens are divided by household and purebred. A reserve and grand champion are selected from all cats and kittens earning 1st and 2nd place in their section.

Purebred Kitten - 4-12 months

Household Kitten - 4-12 months

Purebred Cat - Male or Female - Older than 1 year

Household Cat - Female - Older than 1 year

Household Cat - Male - Older than 1 year





CATS NOTEBOOKS/POSTERS

Each year, any 4-H Member showing a cat in the Youth Fair, is encouraged to complete an educational project which could be a notebook or poster. This exhibit will remain on display throughout the week of Fair in the Young Explorers still exhibit booth. A listing of what should be included in this notebook is posted.
