VAN BUREN COUNTY FAIR
CAT/KITTEN EXHIBITOR RULES


CAT
An exhibitor may show only his/her cat or the family cat. A cat may not be shown by more than one exhibitor except for showmanship classes. An exhibitor can show up to two cats/kittens, but he/she may not have more than one entry per class.


HARNESSES/COLLARS
Harnesses with identification tags are mandatory. Collars are appropriate but cat must also be on a harnass.


POSSESSION/REGISTRATION
Cats must be in the exhibitors possession and be registered at the Extension office by May 1. The cat must be fed and cared for by the exhibitor.


ENTRY
Cats/Kittens must be entered in both a Cat/Kitten Class AND Showmanship.


PRESENCE AT JUDGING
The exhibitor must be present while judging takes place.


ATTIRE
An exhibitor's attire should be neat and clean. The show dress code includes a light-colored long-sleeved shirt and dark colored pants or jeans. Flat shoes are required, no sandals. Long hair should be tied back.


CLASS DEFINITIONS
Cat: Older than one year on the date of the show
Kitten: 4-12 months old on the date of the show
Purebred: Conforms to the standard of the breed. (Registration papers are NOT required.)


CHECKING IN
Cats/Kittens must be checked in at the show area by a superintendent at the appropriate times listed in the current Fair Book on the day of the show.


PREGNANT CATS AND UNDERAGE KITTENS
No obviously pregnant females or kittens less than 4 months of age are eligible to show.


NAILS
All cats should have their nails clipped or be declawed for the protection of the judge and exhibitors. This is a youth event. Do not have the cat declawed if you plan to enter other shows. This will be a disqualification at some cat shows.


HEALTH CERTIFICATE
All cats shown at the fair must have a certificate from a veterinarian stating that they have had the following innoculations: Rabies and Distemper, Calias, and Rhinotrach (Feline 3 in 1). It is highly recommended that cats also have feline leukemia and pneumatis innoculations.


LICE, FLEAS, EARMITES
Cats infected with lice, fleas, or ear mites will automatically be marked down.


CONTAINMENT
Cats must be brought to the show in a carrier on the day of the show and kept under control at all times. Cats will not be kept at the fairgrounds overnight.


NOTEBOOKS
Notebooks will be judged on Saturday and must be displayed throughout fair week.


CAGE DECORATIONS
For cage decorations, you must use the cages provided (2'L x 1'H x 1'W) and the decorated cage must fit on the table provided.

SHOWMANSHIP
Pee Wee Showman (6-8 years)
Young I Showman (9-10 years)
Young II Showman (11-12 years)
Junior Showman (13-14 years)
Senior Showman (15-19 years)
Champion Class (13-19 years)

Exhibitors ages 13-19 with three or more previous 1st or 2nd
place 4-H sponsored wins in Showmanship in previous years must
compete in the Champion Showmanship class.
